Description of the excursion

„Mystical moonscape high above the clouds“

Let the lunar landscape of Tenerife enchant you and visit the volcano Teide with us. Our day begins with a drive through a varied nature heading to the highest village of Tenerife with a height of 1,400 m, named Vilaflor. Vilaflor is the closest village to the National Park of mount Teide on Tenerife. With just under 2 000 inhabitants and an excellent infrastructure, it is a quiet and pleasant place with a special charm. The location is characterized by typical Canarian architecture and beautiful gardens as well as an exceptional panorama of the „Pico del Teide“ and the lower regions. At about 2,000 meters above sea level you will reach the „Caldera de las Cañadas“, an ancient crater with 17 km diameter, whos cone was blown off by an eruption. As a result the current volcanic cone of Teide emerged in later outbreaks. You will see a unique landscape formed from the solidified magma streams of different colors, lava ash fields, bizarre rock formations and depending on the season a surprising variety of flowers and plants that only grow here. One of our photo stops will be at the „Roques de Garcia“, the famous rock formation at an altitude of about 2,200 meters. The most famous rock shape here is the „Roque Chinchado“, which is also called „stony tree“ or „golden finger“.
Our lunch break will take place in the restaurant „Casa Pepe“ (with adapted toilet). Well fed, we continue our journey to the visitors center of the Teide National Park (with adapted toilet). In the visitors center you learn how the different magmatic rocks of the Teide massif araised. There is also plenty information given on animals and plants that can be found in the Teide National Park. In a small cinema a ten-minute film entitled „The dormant volcano“ about the origin of the island of Tenerife, the Caldera and the entire Teide massif is shown continuously. The commentary on this film has been translated into many languages and can therefore be listend to through existing headphones also in English. The return takes us to several stops at different viewpoints over the Cumbre through the Esperanza Forest to the south of the island.
Note: Food is not included in the excursion price for medical and various other reasons as allergies, etc.
